Fundamentals of Material Science is a comprehensive academic textbook designed to provide a clear understanding of the fundamental principles governing the structure and behavior of engineering materials. The book systematically explains crystal structures, crystallographic directions and planes, crystal imperfections, dislocations, grain boundaries, and deformation mechanisms with conceptual clarity and scientific accuracy. It further explores the electrical, magnetic, semiconductor, and optical properties of materials, linking theoretical concepts with practical engineering applications. Written in a simple and structured manner, the book is highly suitable for undergraduate and postgraduate students of materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, and related disciplines. Special emphasis is given to the relationship between atomic structure and material properties, helping readers develop strong conceptual foundations. The text also covers advanced topics such as energy band theory, semiconductors, photonic materials, LEDs, laser diodes, and optical devices. Rich explanations, organized chapters, and illustrative discussions make the book an effective learning resource for both academic study and competitive examinations. This book serves as a valuable reference for students, educators, researchers, and practicing engineers seeking a strong introduction to modern materials science and technology.
